Red Pet
Does anyone know if it is legal to have a Red Fox as a pet in the United States or specifically Austin, Texas?
I would be greatly thankful to whomever answers my question, and to whomever backs it up with the laws of either the United States, the State of Texas, or the City of Austin, Texas. Please include laws of the United States, Texas, or Austin, Texas when answering because I seriously want a Red Fox as a pet.
A Red Fox is susceptible to rabies and there is no proof the vaccine given to your proposed pet would work. For that reason, I doubt very much you could have one as a pet.
Federal, state and local laws are quite strict about having wild animals as pets, but check with the wildlife department for the state of Texas to be sure.
When I was growing up in Vermont we shot them as varmints.
