will my cairn terrier grow out of his obsession with his new toy?
my cairn terrier for his 4th birthday got a little toy with a sqeaker in it. usually he ripps them apart and takes the sqeaker out and destroys it. well last night we got him a toy with a squeaker in it and he hasnt put it down. he hasnt slept at all since and he keeps circling the house looking for a place to hide it. he never drops it unless he has to get water or go to the bathroom. he hasnt even really ate and he usually stays outside and barks at everything and becomes protective. but instead he wanted right back in to his toy. he also usually licks my face and greets me every morning but this morning all he was worried about was his toy. also another thing is he usually loves treats and usually comes to you when you call him. but as of right now his toy takes over everything. What should i do? should i keep letting him have the toy? or will he grow out of it?
I would take the toy away from him for a couple of hours at a time. He should not be so obsessed with it that he will not eat or anything. Replace that toy with another one, then later let him have the faorite toy back. I think he will grow out of it or have a new "favorite" one later on. Don't let it become such an obsession tho.
